Glaciers Edge Wind Farm

Sambatek has provided surveying services for the Glaciers Edge Wind Project, a 211.60 MW wind energy project located in Iowa, which commenced operations in 2019. EDF Renewables spearheaded the development of this significant project. Iowa is the first state to implement a renewable portfolio standard, dating back to 1983, which mandated its significant utilities to procure or generate 105 MW of renewable energy. By 1999, Iowa had not only met but exceeded this requirement, leading the nation by generating over one-third of its power from wind energy.

The Glaciers Edge Wind Project, situated in Cherokee County, Iowa, is a substantial commercial-scale wind energy venture boasting a capacity of 200 megawatts. This project is poised to supply clean and renewable electricity to over 60,000 households. Its energy output feeds into the Raun to Highland 345kV transmission line, operated by Mid-American Energy just north of Marcus, Iowa. Equipped with a variety of General Electric wind turbine generators, including models 2.3, 2.51, and 2.82 MW, alongside supporting infrastructure, the project has secured a long-term power purchase agreement with Google, Inc. EDF Renewables oversees the project's ownership and operations, with General Electric initially providing maintenance services.
